Ruta Orbital Sur

The project includes the development of a new high-standard highway, which will be part of the second metropolitan road ring and will provide a solution to mobility difficulties in the southern sector of Santiago. It contemplates the execution of a new 24-kilometer urban highway that runs through the communes of Peñaflor, Calera de Tango and San Bernardo, and considers the materialization of improvements to local roads to reduce traffic congestion problems.
The project consists of structuring a new west – east connection, which connects Route 79 (Southern Access to Santiago), Route 5 and Route 78 (Santiago – San Antonio Highway), which will facilitate mobility in one of the main exits of the capital of the country and whose design includes links on the main routes it crosses, as well as trenches, overpasses, crossings and walkways.

* This layout corresponds to a reference preliminary project, the result of the proposal studies developed between 2017 and 2021. Once the concession contract has been awarded, the final engineering project will be developed, where the design may undergo changes.
Communes benefited: (San Bernardo, Calera de Tango and Peñaflor)
Orbital Sur stages

Designs will be made, environmental licenses will be obtained, as well as social agreements.

Works will be carried out to materialize the new road infrastructure that will offer a new east-west connection to the southern sector of Santiago.

This stage begins once the construction of each sector of the project is completed and continues until the concession expires.
BENEFITS
Moving towards Efficient and Secure Connectivity

“Santiago Orbital Concession” will improve connectivity, reinforce road safety and promote economic and local development, which will positively impact the quality of life of users. Its design includes high-standard infrastructure works, among which is a free flow toll (electronic collection). These works will benefit nearly half a million people, reducing travel times by more than 30 minutes.
